
A. Remove pen cap and ensure insulin is correct and not expired.
FOR PREMIXED INSULIN ONLY
A. For every injection roll the pen between your palms 10 times (see Figure 1). Make sure that the pen is kept horizontal.
B. Then gently move the pen up and down 10 times as shown for every injection (see Figure 2). Make sure the glass ball moves from one end of the cartridge to the other.
C. Check that the insulin is uniformly white and cloudy. Repeat the rolling and moving the pen until the insulin looks evenly mixed.
DO NOT use your pen if the re-suspended insulin does not look uniformly white, cloudy and aqueous.


A. Wipe the rubber seal with an alcohol swab.
B. Remove the paper tab from a new needle, and screw the needle onto the cartridge holder until it is tight.

A. Turn the dose selector to 2 units.

B. Remove the outer cap (keep for later) and dispose the inner cap.

C. Point the needle upward and tap the cartridge holder to bring air bubbles to the top.

D. Press the button fully. If insulin comes out and the window shows "0", the pen is ready for use.
You may have to perform the safety test (repeat Step A, Step C and Step D)1 to 5 times before insulin comes out of the needle tip.

A. Turn the dose selector to the required units. If you turn past your dose, you can turn back down.

A. Wipe the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it air-dry completely. Then insert the needle straight into the skin, and press the button slowly and fully until the dose window indicates "0".

B. Keep the button pressed for 10 seconds before pulling the needle out.

A. Carefully replace the outer needle cap, unscrew the needle, and dispose of it.
Needle: Place in a sharps container (or sealed hard plastic/metal container).
Empty Pen: Dispose empty pens in accordance with local clinic guidelines.
⦁ The injection site should be selected from the site rich in subcutaneous fat, as shown in the orange area.
⦁ Injections should be rotated between different sites to avoid repetitive tissue trauma.
⦁ Avoid injecting through clothing.
⦁ Insulin absorption rate at different injection sites: abdomen > upper arm > thigh > buttock.
⦁ Insulin glargine should not be administered in the buttocks.
If healthcare professionals require a "skin fold" injection technique: Lift the skin with your thumb, index finger and middle finger instead of your entire hand. Be sure not to lift the skin too hard to cause the skin to turn white or sore.
